A struggling dad caring for his two young children has been left furious after receiving a scathing note from an anonymous neighbour. The dad has been the sole caregiver for his newborn and five-year-old since his wife has been kept in the hospital following postpartum complications.

With his main focus rightly on his kids, things around the house have become less of a priority, including home improvements and gardening work. But he was able to mow the lawn recently and despite not giving the green space as much care as normal recently, it is still compliant with the homeowner association rules.

In spite of this, a cruel neighbour decided to send a sarcastic note to the father about the lack of effort he has put into his property. And the rude resident wasn't even brave enough to hand over the message themself, reports the Mirror.

Posting about the situation on Reddit, the dad said: "We had our second child back in February and I've been caring for the newborn and our five-year-old while my wife has been in the hospital recovering from postpartum complications."

"I haven't been able to care for my yard as much as I would like over the past few months. At no point has my yard been out of compliance with city or HOA [homeowner association] ordinances, and at no point has anyone bothered to approach me directly about the matter."

He was stunned when the letter came through his door, taking a potshot at him for not regularly cutting the grass. The note read: "Congratulations. You mowed. That's twice so far this year, I believe."

"Can you keep it up? Maybe weekly? Or at least every other week? Your neighbours would be very grateful if your house did not look like it was abandoned."

The man continued: "They even postmarked it and sent it through the mail, rather than walking a few doors down and speaking to me like a human being."

He was so irate with the letter that he posted it on Reddit to ask for advice from forum users on how he should respond or whether he should ignore it entirely.

One Redditor advised: "My dad taught me to be the kind of neighbour where if you see something like that - a yard looking like it's falling behind in the upkeep.

"You take yourself over there with your mower and ask your neighbour if they would like some help. He always said you never know what someone has going on in their life and good neighbours help when they can."

However, another user had a different perspective. They said: "Well that's the last time I would ever mow. My entire yard would return to nature before I ever mowed again - unless the city or town forced me my entire home would become a sanctuary for trees and animals."

In a light-hearted twist, another person chimed in: "Get a couple of sheep. No need to mow ever again."
