Stuart Pearce has warned Nottingham Forest the Premier League will be even tougher next season.

The Reds are preparing for their third campaign back in the top flight, having been involved in relegation battles in the last two seasons. They finished in 16th place in their first season back in the Premier League and 17th during a turbulent second season which saw Nuno Espirito Santo replace Steve Cooper as manager and the club docked points for breaching financial rules.

Forest will hope to be battling higher up the table when the new season kicks off, but Pearce has warned the three teams promoted from the Championship - Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton - will be stronger than last season’s relegated trio of Sheffield United, Burnley and Luton Town.

“My heart is at Nottingham Forest so the fact that three teams below them last season didn’t end up putting a lot of pressure on them was a bonus,” said Pearce, speaking to BoyleSports who offer the latest Euro 2024 betting. “I think the three teams coming up will put more pressure on the rest of the teams in the league.

“The three teams coming up, certainly two of them have Premier League experience and they're big clubs, no doubt about that and Ipswich with Kieran McKenna are creating a reputation for themselves.”
