Students at one of Britain's top universities will be able to enjoy this stunning artwork when they return to campus - designed to look like two palms coming together.

The installation - titled Palm Temple - has been donated to the University of Bristol by creator Luke Jerram.

It is based on a spiralling lamella dome structure, which has then been cut in half and placed in parallel - like two palms coming together in prayer.

A lamella roof is a particular style in architecture, consisting of a crisscrossing pattern of arches hinged together to form a diamond pattern.

Luke, 46, originally made the amazing art to celebrate the 600th anniversary of Brunelleschi's dome of Florence Cathedral - an inspiration to artists worldwide.

Palm Temple is being made from cedar wood and imitates stained glass with its dichroic windows, which are able to display different colours according to the light.

The floor is also mirrored, which reflects the dome above.

The artwork was initially displayed in London but has now been transported to Bristol - Luke's hometown.
