A stunning mural of the Oasis brothers has appeared in south Manchester to coincide with Liam Gallagher’s weekend of shows celebrating the 30th anniversary of the band’s debut album.

Liam will take to the stage at Co-op Live this Saturday and Sunday (June 15 and 16) in honour of Oasis’ Definitely Maybe, which was released in August 1994. The debut record featured classic songs Rock N Roll Star, Live Forever and Supersonic.

The album also features the track Shakermaker, which made a nod to the Sifters record shop in Burnage where the Gallagher’s used to visit as teenagers. In the song, Liam sings: “Mister Sifter sold me songs when I was just sixteen, now he stops at traffic lights but only when they're green.”

The shop, on Fog Lane, has now become an even bigger reference point for Oasis fans as a black-and-white mural of Liam and Noel has appeared on the side of its wall. Replicating work from photographer Michael Spencer Jones, the artwork was created by Manchester-based street artist Pic.One.Art.

Posting on social media, the artist wrote: “30 years since the release of Oasis’ debut album, Definitely Maybe. I couldn’t have thought of a more fitting location in Manchester.

“It’s a privilege to paint this mural of the Gallagher brothers in the surroundings of their formative years. Thanks to Pete aka Mister Sifter for welcoming the work on the wall of his legendary record store, in which Oasis pay tribute to in ‘Shakermaker’.

“I’d also like to thank Oasis photographer @michaelspencerjones for trusting me to use his incredible and iconic image.”

Tickets for Liam’s two shows at Co-op Live this weekend were snapped up within minutes of them going up for sale. It led the musician to add a further two dates at the venue, scheduled for June 27 and 28, which have also since sold out.

The tour, which features support from fellow Britpop band Cast, began in London last week and has been praised by Oasis fans. Earlier this week, Liam and Cast’s frontman John Power were photographed backstage at The O2 with Foo Fighters legend Dave Grohl.

John posted on social media that the three of them had been having a ‘great laugh and a Guinness’ together following the former Oasis frontman’s sold-out gig.

On Thursday (June 13), Liam was also honoured with a blue plaque at a Lidl supermarket in Newton Heath - which is close to the Co-op Live music venue. The move came after Liam went viral by randomly tweeting ‘Gig at LIDL’ last month.
