'Succulent' Scottish restaurant crowned among 'world's best steak restaurants'

A Scottish steak restaurant has been named as one of the best in the world on a prestigious list.

London-based media company Upper Cut Media House has just published its annual list of the 'World's 101 Best Steak Restaurants'. The esteemed list, which has been released every year since 2019, celebrates the pinnacle of steak dining across the globe.

Coming in at number 82 is Porter & Rye in Glasgow, having previously been listed in the past three years. The New York-influenced eatery is the only Scottish restaurant to appear, and one of only two in the UK outside of London.

Porter & Rye, situated in the heart of Glasgow's buzzy Finnieston district, serves up a menu of dry aged beef that is sourced sustainably and aged in-house. The restaurant also offers a range of other dishes, such as hand-dived Isle of Mull scallops and Perthshire wood pigeon, as well as a selection of cocktails.

Judges stated: "The ambiance at Porter & Rye is sophisticated yet welcoming, with modern decor accented by rustic touches and soft lighting that creates an intimate dining experience. At the heart of Porter & Rye's menu is a selection of in-house dry-aged premium cuts of beef, selected by John Gilmour butchers expertly aged for maximum flavour and tenderness.

"From the succulent ribeye to the flavourful Porterhouse, each steak is cooked to perfection over an open flame, imparting a delicious smoky char that enhances its natural richness."

Taking to social media to share the news, the team at Porter & Rye commented: "There are only two of these plaques in Scotland and they are both on our door! We're over the moon to be listed again, thank you so much."

Elsewhere in the UK, Pasture in Cardiff placed at number 48 on the list. The highest-placing restaurant in the nation is Cut in London, coming in at number 10.
