Thousands of police officers have been drafted in to cover the planned pro-Palestine march and Remembrance Day events, amid a row over whether the demonstration should be allowed to go ahead.

The Metropolitan Police said in a statement that there would be a "significant policing operation" in place, with 1,850 officers on duty on Saturday and 1,375 on Sunday.

"We’ll be using an extensive set of powers to prevent any disruption whatsoever to remembrance events, policing the demonstration as it passes through parts of the capital, while protecting our communities from those intent on inciting hate, violence and disorder," the statement said.

The move came after prime minister Rishi Sunak warned he would be holding Met Police commissioner, Mark Rowley "accountable" for the decision to allow the march to go ahead, and amid a row over comments made by home secretary Suella Braverman that police were "playing favourites" with pro-Palestine demonstrators.
