2023 has arguably been Suki Waterhouse's biggest year. From a scene-stealing role as self-assured keyboardist Karen Sirko in the hit Amazon series Daisy Jones & the Six to a beguiling tour where she announced she's expecting a baby with boyfriend Robert Pattinson, Waterhouse is in her prime.

So it makes sense that the the actress/model/musician, 31, would want to commemorate such a momentous year for her fans with a little holiday cheer.

On Friday, Waterhouse shared a haunting rock rendition of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." The slow-burning track begins as a barebones number that Waterhouse's smoky, blues-tinged vocals and eventually turns into an eerie, string-flanked instrumental explosion.

According to the Persuasion star, it was a fan who actually pointed out that she should record a version of the holiday classic — but it's a favorite of her's, too.

"I chose to record 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas' because it's a timeless favorite of mine," Waterhouse told PEOPLE. The warmth and nostalgia in the song really resonate with me, and it was a great creative challenge to put a new spin on a song I've been listening to for ages."

For Waterhouse, it was also paramount that the song's proceeds went to those in need, so she teamed up with A Sense of Home — an organization that prevents homelessness by creating first-ever homes and a community for aged-out foster youth — which she worked with 2019.

"Their commitment to helping young adults leaving foster care left a lasting impression on me," Waterhouse said of the Los Angeles-based non-profit. "Donating the proceeds to this cause during the holiday season is a privilege that I'm so excited for—it's a way to keep supporting their mission of creating stable homes and making a positive change in people's lives."

Waterhouse's holiday single seems to be just a taste of what's to come. When asked if she was working on a new album, she said she's "been living in the studio essentially."

"Writing is so cathartic for me — I can't wait to share more soon!" she said.

She also has something else to look forward to: Daisy Jones & The Six's timeless companion album AURORA is nominated for best compilation soundtrack for visual media at the 2024 Grammys.

"I'm over the moon about Daisy Jones & The Six getting Grammy nominations!" she exclaims. "It's a testament to the hard work and creativity of the entire team, and I feel incredibly honored to be a part of it."

Following the show's release in March and before the Hollywood strike, the cast and crew had noted that they were hoping the band might even take the stage at some point.

For Waterhouse, the possibility is still not off the table.

"That's always been a dream for the whole cast," she said. "And we hope that someday it will become a reality."
