Sunbury officials OK $9K for City Hall renovation plans

Apr. 8—SUNBURY — Sunbury City Council and Mayor Josh Brosious met in a rare work session and agreed to spend $9,000 for a city architect company to develop renovation plans for City Hall.

Brosious said the original $519,000 that is needed to conduct the renovations was a starting point and that he wants to make sure all employees are safe after an incident last year in which an individual was hiding in the basement of the Market Street location after business hours.

"We need to get some of these things done," he said. "These numbers are not official numbers but they are a starting point to see what we can and can't do."

Councilman Jim Eister said he understands the renovation project but wants to make sure the city is spending money on what is needed, and not what is wanted.

Brosious said the proposal included new furniture and several other items that could be cut from the price.

Councilwoman Lisa Martin agreed with Brosious and said the city needs to move forward in some capacity.

"We all want to do something and we need to act so we aren't having these conversations months from now," she said.

The board voted during the regular meeting to approve spending $9,000 for plans to have SBA Architects, of Sunbury, design the first part of the plans.

"I am happy we are moving forward," Brosious said.

Brosious said the city has put away nearly $160,000 for the renovations already.
