Super League club in pole position to land Hull KR prop George King

George King's future looks increasingly likely to be away from Hull KR with Huddersfield Giants emerging as the frontrunners to secure his services for the 2025 season. Rugby League Live understands the Ireland international has had conversations with his hometown club in the past 48 hours and there is now a belief that his preference is to join the West Yorkshire club in 2025.

Rovers had granted King's management permission to explore options elsewhere with a view to him leaving at the end of the season, despite being contracted until 2027. Castleford Tigers had also shown interest in signing the 29-year-old but now it is the Giants who are leading the race among other interest from beyond West Yorkshire to get a deal over the line.

King is closing in on 100 appearances for the Robins since his arrival at the club and he could yet achieve that milestone, with it being made clear that any deal would not be pushed through until the end of the current campaign. The prop remains on good terms with the club and is expected to play an important role in Rovers' push for silverware as the year progresses.

On Monday, King's agent, Craig Harrison, cast light on the situation. "Both George and the club are well aware of what's going on, so it's all transparent," he told Rugby League Live.

"We'll know what's happening by the end of the week, George has the utmost respect for the club, especially the fans. We've been very close to the club for many years and everything we do will be totally transparent, so we'll make sure that a decision is made and everyone knows where we stand."

King still lives in Huddersfield and has history with the club, having been on the books there as a youngster before moving to Warrington Wolves. It now appears likely that he will make a return over a decade later, adding more depth to a pack that will also welcome Tom Burgess to its artillery in 2025 after he agreed to join the club from South Sydney Rabbitohs next year.

As for the Robins they have already signed one of the world's best props in Jared Waerea-Hargreaves ahead of the 2025 season.
