Liverpool's Premier League title chances have dropped significantly, according to the Opta supercomputer after their defeat to Crystal Palace at Anfield.

Prior to this weekend's result, a supercomputer had predicted City to land a fourth consecutive league title. Not much has changed in that regard after the Reds were stunned 1-0 by Palace, thanks to Erebechi Eze's first-half goal.

Liverpool amassed a 2.87 expected goals figure in the match, which was their highest on record since the 2010/11 season. Meanwhile, the Gunners suffered their first defeat of 2024 against former manager Unai Emery, thanks to late goals from Leon Bailey and Ollie Watkins.

Both defeats came after City went top of the table with a 5-1 thrashing of Luton Town at the Etihad Stadium. Daiki Hashioka scored an own goal in the opening minutes which was later followed by second-half goals from Mateo Kovacic, Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Josko Gvardiol. Ross Barkley scored a consolation goal for the visitors.

Liverpool saw their title chances drop by 17.4 per cent, while Arsenal's possibility of lifting the title dropped by 12 per cent. Unsurprisingly, City have become even bigger favourites, according to the Opta supercomputer.

Pep Guardiola's team have now seen an increase of 29.5 per cent, giving them a 70.1 per cent chance of being crowned champions for the fourth consecutive season. Arsenal and Liverpool now sit at 18.3 per cent and 11.7 per cent respectively.

Speaking after the defeat, Jurgen Klopp told Sky Sports: "I feel really rubbish. I am standing here and to talk about this game is really tricky. The first half was absolutely not good enough. We lost conviction from the last game [against Atalanta]. We concede the goal, which is a horrible goal. A completely free player in the six-yard box, that cannot happen."

There are just two points between City and both of their rivals with six games remaining. The Reds will head to the capital to take on Fulham next Sunday (4:30pm).
