Supermarket giant Lidl looks at expanding new store into Skipton

SUPERMARKET giant Lidl is looking at expanding into Skipton.

A West Craven town, Barnoldswick, is also on the list of where Lidl would like to site a new store.

The retailer has released the list of areas it is looking to expand into as part of its push to open hundreds of stores across the country.

The list was announced as Lidl marks the 30th anniversary of its first store.

Lidl has clarified that the list is of “areas of interest” to the company where it wants to open new stores, rather than plans for specific sites.

The retailer says new stores should be in “town centre or edge of town retail parks” with at least 18,000 square feet of space as well as room for a 100-space car park.

Richard Taylor, Lidl GB Chief Development Officer, said: “We have also been the fastest growing bricks and mortar supermarket for the past seven months in a row.

“With an exceptional store network and our laser focus on operational excellence, we’re welcoming more customers through our doors than ever before, which positions us perfectly for continued expansion.

“As we celebrate our 30th year, our commitment to ensuring that all households across the country have access to high quality produce at affordable prices is stronger than ever.

“We’re planning to open hundreds of new Lidl stores but ultimately see no ceiling on our ambition or growth potential.

“As we look ahead, we’re excited to welcome even more new shoppers to our existing stores, as well as those we’re planning to open across the country in the coming months and years.”
