Bank holidays can leave many people wondering about the opening times for supermarkets like Tesco, Aldi, Morrisons and others over the long weekend.

May's two bank holidays are the early May bank holiday and the late May bank holiday, also known as the Spring bank holiday. These holidays mean a three-day weekend for most workers, but they can also lead to changes in supermarket opening hours.

While many will have their plans sorted well in advance of the long weekend, it's always useful to know when your local supermarket will be open on Monday in case you need to make a last-minute dash for supplies. Here's all the information you need on when supermarkets will be open and closed on Monday, May 6.

Tesco

On Monday, most of Tesco's larger stores will be open from 8am to 6pm, with some stores staying open until 8pm. In Scotland, the larger Tesco stores will operate from 8am to 8pm on bank holiday Monday, while in Northern Ireland, the hours will be from 7am to 6pm.

All of Tesco's smaller convenience stores will maintain their regular hours throughout the entire bank holiday weekend, opening between 6am and 7am and closing between 10pm and midnight. You can locate your nearest Tesco using the supermarket's locator tool.

Sainsbury's

On the bank holiday Monday, most Sainsbury's stores will be open from 8am until 8pm - approximately two hours earlier than usual. Sainsbury's Local convenience stores are set to be open from 7am until either 10pm or 11pm this Saturday, Sunday and bank holiday Monday.

Morrisons

On Monday Morrisons stores will open between 7am and 8am with most stores closing at 8pm - although Morrisons told the Mirror that some stores will remain open until 10pm. Morrisons petrol stations will also open half an hour earlier and close half an hour later on the bank holiday Monday.

You can find your nearest Morrisons with the supermarket's locator tool here.

Asda

On Monday most of the larger Asda stores will operate as usual - this means they could open as early as 6am and close as late as midnight.

The chain's smaller convenience stores, Asda Express, are typically open 24 hours even on Sundays. This appears to be the case over the bank holiday weekend too. You can locate your nearest Asda with the supermarket's locator tool here.

Aldi

On the bank holiday Monday, Aldi stores will be closing slightly earlier than usual. Instead of the regular 10pm closing time, most Aldi stores will shut their doors at 8pm.

However, in Scotland, the standard shopping hours of 8am to 10pm will remain for most stores. You can locate your nearest Aldi using the supermarket's locator tool here.

Lidl

On the bank holiday Monday Lidl stores will be opening later at 8am and will continue to operate until their usual closing time of 10pm. However, this may vary depending on the location of your local store, for instance, if it's situated within a shopping centre, it could close earlier.
