Supernatural star Jensen Ackles has revealed one character he hopes to see return for the final season.

The stars of the popular CW show confirmed earlier this year that season 15 would be its last, and the season 14 finale set things up in dramatic fashion as Chuck / God brought about the apocalypse.

The final moments of season 14 saw Dean (Ackles), Sam (Jared Padalecki), and Castiel (Misha Collins) witness souls from hell unleashed onto earth once more, including enemies from season 1 such as Bloody Mary and the Woman in White.

Of course, this opens up the possibility of seeing characters from the show's past to make an appearance in season 15. And Ackles named Adam Milligan, played by Jake Abel back in seasons 4 and 5, as someone he'd like to finally make a return.

"The fact that God just said, 'Fine, open up the gates of Hell, open up the gates to Heaven. You guys figure it out', really tees us up to go anywhere," he explained to TVLine.

"I also think it tees us up to have... a lot of familiar faces and favourite characters kind of come back into the fray. That's kind of what I'm hoping for."

It's not the first time the stars have said that they'd like to see Adam (who was last seen sealed away in Lucifer's cage) again.

"That's something that needs to be touched on, and it might be," Ackles said late last year. "But we'll have to see."

Jared Padalecki added: "I'd do anything for Jake Abel back. He's a dear friend and an amazing actor and an amazing man. I'll do anything to work with him again."

Supernatural airs on The CW in the US and on E4 in the UK.
