“You’re not going to believe this! Was on my way to an appointment yesterday when I collapsed in my kitchen,” he wrote, alongside a photo of himself in the hospital. “Six massive heart attacks later, and being brought back from [the] dead 4 times I apparently had a 100% blockage in my [left anterior descending artery.]”

He went on to thank his wife, the Los Angeles Fire Department and the medical staff who treated him. Without them, Sheppard revealed, “I wouldn’t be writing this. My chances of survival were virtually nil.”

The actor ended his caption on a positive note, writing that he feels “great” and would be returning home the next day.

Sheppard is best known for playing the Crossroads demon-turned-King of Hell Crowley on Supernatural from 2009 to 2017.

His co-star Misha Collins, who played the angel Castiel on the aforementioned CW drama, left the following comment on Sheppard’s Instagram post: “You don’t need to do the most and biggest every time! 6 heart attacks? 2 or 3 would have been impressive enough. You’ve impressed us, okay. Now stop with this heal up and get back on the road with us. Love you, pal.”

The ubiquitous Sheppard’s other notable TV credits include his appearances as Jim Sterling in Leverage, Willoughby Kipling in Doom Patrol, Ivan Erwich in 24 and Christopher Yates in Soldier of Fortune, Inc., among others. He has also had roles in other series like Warehouse 13, White Collar, Doctor Who, Burn Notice and Monk.
