A travel aficionado revealed what they consider to be the 'most surprising country' they have ever visited.

The explorer, known as 'Jordynn' in her online travelogue, expressed astonishment at how this off-the-radar gem remains largely unknown despite offering picturesque beaches, breathtaking mountain scenery and cities brimming with culture.

She shared her amazement on TikTok (@wheretonexttt__), asserting the country is ideal for budget travellers thanks to its generous array of spots with exceptionally 'affordable prices'.

"Most surprising country we've ever been to," she enthusiastically disclosed. "This isn't the Philippines, this isn't Switzerland, it's not Greece, this isn't Italy, not Thailand! And it's not Portugal! This is Albania."

Despite visiting for merely a week, Jordynn felt she would have happily extended her trip to a full month after discovering the richness of experiences available in this Balkan state. One of her top recommended places is Tirana, the vibrant capital city renowned for its myriad museums, historical buildings, and lively night scene.

For those seeking sun and sea, the seaside city of Sarande offers prime beach lounging and exquisite seafood restaurants. Just an hours drive from this coastal retreat is Gjirokaster, a city like no other and designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Jordynn enthused: "This country is in between Greece and Montenegro and idk how more people don't know about it? ! It offers such a diverse experience between the insane mountains and hiking in the north...the crystal clear, calm sea and gorgeous beaches in the south... the rich culture/ history in the city.

"The cobble stone old towns and UNESCO world heritage sites... and don't even get me started on the food!" Byrek, one of Albania's most celebrated dishes, can often be found at street carts.

It's a must-try for anyone fond of Cornish pasties, typically filled with a variety of ingredients from melted cheese to meats and vegetables. For those with a penchant for sweets, Albania's renowned Baklava is a tempting choice a nutty pastry commonly drenched in honey.

Wrapping up her thoughts, Jordynn added: "Every place offers something different and I HIGHLY recommend every place! I stayed 2 weeks in Albania and could've easily stayed a whole month."
