Surrey’s ‘best’ GP where patients are most likely to get same day appointments

One of the main things patients look for when choosing a GP is how quickly you can get an appointment. SurreyLive has looked at the data to see where you can be seen fastest in the county and one GPs has come out clearly on top.

The typical wait at The Vine Medical Centre in East Molesey is only one day. This practice in North Surrey topped the list when it came to speed of getting an appointment with 72.5% of people getting in on the same day.

At Vine Medical Centre in East Molesey, only 1.7 per per cent of patients waited more than 22 days for an appointment in the recent data.

This is much higher than England's average as measured by the NHS. In the most recent figures for May 2024 NHS England said that 44.3% of appointments took place on the same day they were booked.

Located on Pemberton Road the GP received a good rating during its last CQC inspection in 2019. In the report, inspectors highlighted that it was part of a hub that offered both evening and weekends appointments at separate locations.

The practice is also part of a hub of GP practices that offer evening appointments until 9pm and weekend appointments. These appointments are not run from the practice but from separate locations in Leatherhead, Epsom and on the Downs.

The GP makes use of different appointment types, with 68.6% of people at The Vine Medical Centre getting a face to face meeting. This is closer to the national average, which NHS England said was 65.1% for May 2024.

The practice’s boundaries look somewhat of an arrowhead. The point is up at the River Thames and Hurst park, with the boundary then going down the A309 and Molesey Road each side. The end of the boundary is on a slant encompassing Beauchamp Road as well as Embercourt Road.

These figures compare well with the regional average. According to NHS England in May 2024 only 44.5% of appointments were conducted on the same day across the South East. At the other end of the scale 5.4% of people had to wait between 22 - 28 days while 5.3% of people had to wait more than this.

Comparatively only 1.7% of people at the Vine Medical Centre had to wait more than 22 days. The surgery itself is open from 8am to 6.30pm on weekdays and requests for appointments can be made on an online form
