A Woking golf club has been hailed as one of the UK’s most picturesque, coming closely behind the prestigious St Andrew’s, where Catherine Zeta-Jones is known to frequent. This might raise some eyebrows, given that Surrey is one of the golfing hubs of the UK.

Surrey surprisingly is pretty much one large fairway. There are just more than 140 golf courses in Surrey alone. A Woking golf course ranking so highly might raise a few eyebrows, given Surrey has some of the most breathtaking greens in the world.

Some of Surrey’s top spots include the exclusive St George’s Hill, designed by Harry Colt, as well as Wentworth Golf Club, a prestigious members club in Virginia Water. Queenwood, a highly coveted and largely private club not far from Foxhills, and Walton Heath all failed to make the list.

According to Betway , Woking’s New Zealand golf course came second on the list, behind St Andrews. This was based off of how many hashtags received on Instagram.

St Andrews received more than 17,000, and New Zealand got 4,229 hashtags on Instagram. This was followed by Berkshire’s neighbouring Sunningdale golf course, with 3,976 hashtags to its name.

What makes New Zealand golf course so special? It’s rolling greens and towering pine trees create a stunning backdrop, with deep purple heathers dotted around the grounds.

It’s not a huge golf course, with 18 holes. But compared to others in Surrey, it is a challenge in accuracy for players. It was designed by Samuel Fergusson and was also built on the same estate used for Brooklands race track.

New Zealand offers a private setting for a quiet and uncrowded game. There are some hidden bunkers, added in 1931 by Tom Simpson and Philip Mackenzie Ross.

Aside from the golfing, it’s highly recommended for staff service and food at the clubhouse. One player wrote on Tripadvisor: “A very special golf club that just exudes exclusivity and quality. From the moment you drive through the electric gates you know you are going to enjoy the day. First class course, service, food and club house.”
