Polling stations have now opened across the UK in the 2024 General Election. People across the 650 constituencies that make up the country will be heading out to cast their ballots for their new MPs.

For many areas, excluding those that have had by-elections since, this will be the first chance to have their say on their Member of Parliament - and the make-up of the Government - since the last General Election in late 2019. Polling Stations are open between 7am and 10pm on Thursday (July 4).

There are 11 constituencies in Surrey with two more that include parts of Surrey (Farnham and Bordon, Windsor). Here is when we expect results to start coming in.

The votes will then be verified and counting will begin. The Press Association has estimated roughly when each constituency is set to declare its winner - with most expected in the early hours of Friday morning (July 5).

These estimates are of course subject to change. There are occasionally delays to verification, recounts if a constituency is particularly close and other circumstances.

In addition, many constituencies have changed since the last election. Many have changed borders and new ones have been created as a result. As a result, these timings should not be taken as a definite guide for when any given area will declare.
