Surrey are set to win the race for Lancashire all-rounder Jordan Clark and make him their second acquisition for the 2019 season.

After signing Liam Plunkett from Yorkshire, Surrey have beaten Warwickshire to hard-hitting, seam-bowling 27-year-old Clark. He is a force in all three formats and will be a major loss for Lancashire.

He is set to sign a three-year deal with Surrey and could be announced soon.

In July’s Roses match, Clark took a remarkable hat-trick of Joe Root, Kane Williamson and Jonny Bairstow, all of whom are now in the top 10 of the ICC’s Test batting rankings.

Surrey kept alive their hopes of making the Vitality Blast knockout stages with a seven-wicket win over Hampshire at the Kia Oval last night. Excellent bowling from Jade Dernbach and Gareth Batty limited Hampshire to 133, which Surrey knocked off with ease.

They must beat Glamorgan in Cardiff on Friday and hope other results go their way.

Matt Pillans, the Surrey bowler, will leave the club, having signed a three-year deal with Yorkshire.
