Suspect Commits 'Cartjacking' in Unsuccessful Getaway Attempt on Golf Cart

A man being chased by police for burglary and car theft hijacked a golf cart in a getaway attempt in Palm City, Florida, on September 7.

This video, filmed from a Martin County Sheriff’s Office helicopter, shows a golf cart tootling along the green of Hammock Creek Golf Club in Palm City. The video then shows a man exit the golf cart, walk toward a forested area, and lie down to surrender.

Golfers told police that the man who stole their cart “appeared out of nowhere” and said he had a gun.

“The men watched [the suspect] take off across the course on the low-speed ride as Air1 followed from the air,” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook.

Police arrested Jerome Inman, 25, of Greenacres, who was one of several suspects in an “auto theft crime spree” in Martin County. Police said the suspects burglarized multiple cars at a Cracker Barrel in Stuart and later stole a car from a Palm City gas station.

Police chased the stolen car, which suspects crashed and left, fleeing on foot.

“[Inman] later told deputies that he stole the cart because he thought he could make a faster getaway,” police said.

Police said Inman was charged with grand theft auto and was being held at Martin County jail. Another suspect was also found and charged. Credit: Martin County Sheriff’s Office via Storyful
