Suspect named after police chase ends with car on roundabout

A man was named as a suspect after police chased a Volkswagen Polo through the streets of Southport.

Merseyside Police shared the news that officers had charged a man for a number of offences after a "prolonged pursuit" across Southport.

The driver hit the roundabout at the end of Scarisbrick New Road and Eastbank Street after officers were made aware of the car at around 12.30am, with Merseyside Police telling the ECHO he was detained a "short time later".

A lock knife and a large quantity of class A and B drugs were found in the car. The post, uploaded to Twitter, said: "A man was charged & remanded with numerous offences following a prolonged Police pursuit around the Southport area yesterday.

The driver collided into a roundabout and was found in possession of a lock knife and a large quantity of Class A & B drugs when arrested."

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman today confirmed: "Ben Goddard, 32, of no fixed abode, was charged with dangerous driving, driving otherwise in accordance with a licence, failing to provide a specimen, fail to stop and using a vehicle without third party insurance.

"He was remanded into custody to appear in court yesterday, Wednesday 3 July."
