A suspected drug driver has been arrested on the Isle of Wight after he "hot-footed it from the scene" of a collision.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary were called to reports of a crash in Shanklin earlier today (Wednesday, May 8).

A silver Renault van had collided with another parked van on Sandy Lane.

Andy, from the Roads Policing Unit, said the driver "decided he didn't want to hang around and hot-footed it from the scene."

Police searched the area, and PC McGachie found the driver a short distance away.

The man was arrested following a positive DrugWipe test.

He remains in police custody at this time.
