Suspended Castleford Tigers duo free to play Hull FC due to disciplinary loophole

Castleford Tigers will be able to recall two suspended players for the visit of Hull FC next week as a result of a peculiar loophole in the disciplinary system.

This week, Tigers forward Liam Horne received a one-match suspension after he was sent off in Castleford's defeat to St Helens. Horne was charged with a dangerous throw, resulting in a suspension.

However, he will be free to feature in the match against the Black and Whites, despite the suspension. That's because of a quirk in the disciplinary system that allows players to serve a match of their suspension through a reserve grade match should their club's first-team not be playing that week. Of course, it is Challenge Cup semi-final week, and the Tigers are out of the cup. With Castleford's reserves in action this weekend against St Helens, Horne is able to serve his suspension this weekend.

And it means Sylvester Namo will be available for selection too. The Papua New Guinean received a five-match suspension last month, however, he has already missed four of those games and he can serve the fifth this weekend, meaning he is free to play against Simon Grix's side next week.

The same applies for Tommy Makinson, the St Helens winger who was also sent off last weekend. He too received a one-match ban, but will be free to play against Leeds Rhinos when Paul Wellens' side return to action next week.
