The Sutton Coldfield constituency is considered to be one of the safest Conservative seats in the country, with voters returning a Tory MP in every election here since the Second World War. But this year saw a 22.1 per cent swing away from the Tories.
However, polls predicted a tough night for the Tories in Sutton Coldfield, with Andrew Mitchell tipped as one of the Tories who might lose his seats amid an election 'wipeout' for the Tories.
