A group of up to 30 young "Swifties" were left stranded at Sandhills station at midnight after missing the last train.

The girls had taken the concert bus from Anfield Stadium following Taylor Swift's Era's tour performance on Thursday, June 12. The shuttle bus service, which is advertised on the Liverpool FC website as "fast, frequent, and convenient", runs between Sandhills and Anfield for all concerts held at the stadium.

Thursday's show ended at approximately 11.15pm, giving fans a good 35 minutes before the last train was due to leave the station at 11.50pm. But busy traffic leaving the stadium meant the bus did not arrive until midnight, leaving all riders stranded.

Nicki Watkinson's 20-year-old daughter Lucy was among the group of 20 to 30 young women and girls abandoned on the platform. She said: "We planned to meet her at Ormskirk station, so she was planning on getting the concert bus to Sandhills, and the train from there. We were aware of the times, but the concert didn't finish until 11.15pm, so we knew we were cutting it fine.

"The concert bus was set up, but in the meantime it was caught up in the concert traffic, so it didn't move for a long time. Some people got off. By the time the bus had got to the station the train had gone. I had to drive from Ormskirk to pick them up.

"It's just a shame they don't do later trains for big events like that. Just one more would have been very useful. We're encouraged to try to use public transport, but once something like that happens you don't try again.

"By the time I got there half an hour later there were good 20 or 30 people waiting outside for pick-up. You could tell they had all been to the concert because they were all dressed up and they were all young girls.

"It's lucky I could get across and pick her up, but if we went again we certainly wouldn't be risking the trains."
