Swimming pool near Swindon closing for revamp

The changing rooms and swimming pool at Lime Kiln in Royal Wootton Bassett are set to close as the next phase of redecoration works are carried out at the leisure centre.

These works will involve a complete refurbishment of the changing rooms as well as a revamp of the flooring around the poolside.

According to Wiltshire Council, the improvements will be completed by the end of July.

The changing rooms will be shut for six weeks from June 17 and the swimming pool will be closed for two weeks from June 24.

During the week-long closure of the changing rooms, residents can still use the pool, but must arrive at the centre swim-ready with a dry-robe or equivalent.

Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, cabinet member for leisure, said: “We are investing in our leisure centres in this way because we want to provide residents with well maintained and fit-for-purpose facilities to try and encourage more people to participate in sporting activities and keep physically, socially and mentally active.”

Within Wiltshire Council’s 2024/2025 budget is a £3m investment in leisure centres.

Major works are planned for those in Devizes, Marlborough and Warminster.

Local authorities are responsible for providing public access to leisure centres and sports facilities, and Wiltshire Council manages 20 different centres across the county.
