‘The Sympathizer’ Star Hoa Xuande Signs To UTA

EXCLUSIVE: UTA has signed The Sympathizer star Hoa Xuande for representation.

Xuande is currently the lead in the A24/HBO series, which hails from visionary director Park Chan-wook and Don McKellar and is based on Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name.

Set during the Vietnam War, the series follows ‘The Captain’ (Xuande), a North Vietnamese spy in the South Vietnamese army, who stays embedded in a South Vietnamese community in exile in the United States. The series also stars Robert Downey Jr., Sandra Oh, Fred Nguyen Khan and Duy Nguyen. For his performance, he was nominated for a Gotham TV Award for their inaugural program in the ‘Outstanding Performance in a Limited Series’ category.

He can previously be seen in the Cineflix series Last King of the Cross in the role of ‘Romeo’ alongside Tim Roth; Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop as ‘Lin’; the indie feature A Stitch in Time, which won the 2022 AACTA Award for Best Indie Film; the BBC drama series Top of the Lake: China Girl opposite Elisabeth Moss; the limited Foxtel series Fighting Season; and the Australian series Ronny Chieng: International Student in the series regular role of ‘Elvin.’

Xuande will continue to be represented by Morrisey Management, Industry Entertainment and Narrative.
