Tailteann Cup draw as quarter-final pairings are confirmed with Ulster rivals set to clash

Ulster will have at least one representative in the last four of the Tailteann Cup after Fermanagh were pitted against Antrim in the quarter-finals.

Down will be at home to Oisin McConville’s Wicklow next weekend with Sligo facing Limerick and Kildare taking on Leinster rivals Kildare.

The four group winners, Down, Fermanagh, Kildare and Sligo, were in one pot while the four preliminary quarter-final winners from last weekend, namely Antrim, Laois, Limerick and Wicklow were in the other pot.

Teams who already played each other in the group stage could not meet again. That meant Fermanagh only had two possible opponents, Antrim and Limerick, and they were drawn out first before Limerick were added back to the main draw.

Kieran Donnelly’s side will have home advantage for the quarter-final tie which will be the second Tailteann Cup clash between the sides in a little over a year after the Saffrons defeated Fermanagh to top Group Four in 2023.

Antrim battled to a 3-11 to 2-10 win over London in Corrigan Park on Sunday with Ruairi McCann’s second goal late on finally giving the Saffrons some breathing space.

Laois had a four-point win over New York on Sunday while Wicklow defeated Leitrim on Saturday with Limerick seeing off Tipperary.

The four group winners will have home advantage for the quarter-finals which will be played this weekend.

The semi-finals will be played as a double-header in Croke Park on Sunday, June 23 while the final is scheduled for Saturday, July 13 with the final three games in the competition being televised live on RTÉ.
