Takeaway plan approved for former travel shop in Stourbridge

PLANS have been approved to turn a former travel agent shop in Stourbridge into a takeaway.

Dudley Council’s planners have given the go-ahead for a change of use at 68 High Street which was formerly occupied by Co-op Travel.

The application to change the use of the unit from retail to a hot food takeaway serving burgers, pizzas, hotdogs and fish and chips was approved on Wednesday June 26.

A planning officer’s report says internal alterations would create a seating area, customer WC, service counter and kitchen on the ground floor plus a larger seating area with a stock room, staff room and staff WCs on the first floor. External alterations would include an extraction flu - details of which must be provided as part of planning conditions.

The report states: “It is considered that the proposal would make a positive contribution to the overall role of the centre and its retail function would not be undermined.

“The proposed development would be acceptable in principle being of an appropriate use within the surroundings and would not have an adverse impact visual amenity.

“Conditions have been included to ensure neighbouring amenity concerns are fully addressed in regard to noise and odour issues. There are no highway safety concerns.”

The proposed opening times for the eatery would be 11.30am to 11pm Monday to Saturday, and 4pm to 10pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays, with two full-time and four part-time staff proposed.
