A takeaway praised by customers as being “better than Five Guys” has closed its doors.

Burger Joe opened in Moreton in 2018 and was soon praised by locals as a “tastier, cheaper, independent” alternative to the larger chain restaurant, Five Guys. It contained a wide range of unique burgers, from the katsu chicken to salt and pepper halloumi, as well as halloumi nuggets, katsu chicken fries, and cheese and bacon onion rings.

In May last year, after much searching, the company found a new site on Allport Road in Bromborough for their second Burger Joe venue. Kellie said: “We’ve been looking for a shop in Bromborough for about three years, so we were delighted to find the right place in the right spot. We stumbled across it and thought this is perfect. It’s all worked out brilliantly.”

The new venue opened its doors on January 5 of this year and earned many positive reviews. However, last weekend, the business said it would be closing the south Wirral site for good.

Burger Joe confirmed the news of its closure on its Facebook page. The post said: “Bromborough what can we say? It’s been a wild albeit a short ride, we faced obstacles from the start but the short time we spent here we have loved! A difficult decision but the right one for sure.”

Burger Joe confirmed its Moreton takeaway was “standing strong” and would continue to operate. Fans of the Bromborough store meanwhile flooded the comments expressing their sadness at the news.

One said: “Sad to hear! Amazing burgers.” Another said: “That's such a shame.” A third added: “No way, I told everyone how good you are, it was good whilst it lasted.”

A fourth fan said: “This was so much nicer than the burger place in Liverpool I went to, Five Guys.”
