Tamworth teens threatened in trio of robbery and attempted robberies

Three teenagers were threatened in a trio of robbery and attempted phone robberies near Tamworth town centre late last week. Police have launched an appeal after the disturbing incidents which all happened within the space of just an hour and a half on the same day and same area of town.

The teenagers were threatened and asked to give over their phones in the underpass beneath Anker Drive, leading from Bolebridge Street to Odeon car park last Friday afternoon, April 12, between just after 3pm and just before 5pm.

Only one of the three-handed over their phones. No weapons were seen or reported. CCTV enquiries are underway.

Launching an appeal, a spokesperson for Tamworth Police said: “We are appealing for information following three incidents yesterday afternoon.

“On Friday, April 12, we received three separate reports of unknown offenders demanding phones from teenagers in the underpass beneath Anker Drive leading from Bolebridge Street to Odeon car park. The incidents all happened between 3.15 and 4.45pm.

“The offenders are described as a male aged between 14 to 20, of mixed heritage, with a spotty face, wearing a dark blue/grey hooded jacket with the hood up and tracksuit bottoms. In the company of this male was a white female, of similar age, with long brown hair wearing a white top and black leggings.

“The offenders have made threats but no weapons have been seen. Of the three reports, only one of the victims handed over their phone.

“We are conducting enquiries including checking CCTV in the local area. If anyone was in the vicinity around that time who may have witnessed anything, have dash cam footage or has any relevant information then please contact us on 101 or via the online form or Live Chat on our website at https://www.staffordshire.police.uk.”
