No matter your stance on Halloween decorating, it’s no debate that decor for the holiday tends to run the gamut, from over-the-top frights to more subdued natural elements. And while I’m still not sold on the inflatable lawn accents trend, this year there is one Spooky Season line I’m happy to get behind: Today, Target is announcing a Halloween collection with John Derian, and it’s as chic as it is festive.

Derian, the decoupage master behind beloved New York City shops and collections with Astier de Villatte, launched his first tabletop pieces for Target last year, as part of the retailer’s 20th anniversary program. This time, he’s back with nearly 50 items featuring Halloween motifs like skeletons and spiders, all pulled from his extensive collection of vintage and antique books and papers.

“I love Halloween and all of its magic and playfulness,” Derian tells House Beautiful. “And I love that the collection is not scary-scary, more funny-scary. I have a large archive, and this gave me the opportunity to use some of the ‘darker’ images in my collection.”

These motifs are splashed across plates, platters, aprons, pillows, and more (including a stuffed skeleton!) in the new collection, which will drop on October 10. “I will be hanging the lanterns in my garden, entertaining with the glassware, serving on the plates, putting the cushions on my sofa, drying dishes with tea towels, and of course proudly displaying my new, five-foot-tall stuffed skeleton,” Derian says of his own Halloween decor. “There are so many fun, different things that all work well together.” If you have to pick just one item, Derian recommends the candy bowl, tote bags, or a scented candle.

It’s the perfect entry point for fans of Derian who might not be able to shell out more on his famous decoupage trays but still want a piece of his trademark style—which, Derian says, fits in perfectly with this holiday. “When I think about my work, imagery collection, and creative process, I imagine casting a spell with my things,” he explains. “That vision inspired me throughout this design process. And I love all of the details, from beautiful beading and lovely cottons and linens to fun melamine, printed glassware, and punctured metal lanterns. We were able to use so many different materials, creating a very expansive, tactile collection.”
