Tartan Army set to don Bavarian head wear after John McGinn's viral video

The Tartan Army could be set to follow in the footsteps of John McGinn by donning traditional Bavarian head wear when they arrive in Germany for the Euros.

Scotland die-hards could ditch the iconic "See-you Jimmy" hats, with tartan top and red hair, for the green Tyrolean as worn by the midfield hero in a brilliant viral video from Sunday.

Steve Clarke’s talisman was spotted taking part in a folk dance as the oompah band performed.

McGinn was invited to join the dancers who were wearing Lederhosen and the iconic hat complete with feather and several pin badges.

The hilarious clip was taken just hours after the team had arrived in the picturesque town Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where they will base themselves for the tournament.

The locals laid out a warm welcome, including the celebratory dance, which included knee-slapping and jumping off the ground.

And the way McGinn embraced the local culture has inspired other fans to follow suit.

Tartan Army veteran Hamish Husband can now see droves of fans copying McGinn as they prepare to takeover the Bavarian capital Munich this week.

Hamish, spokesperson for the Association of Tartan Army Clubs, told the Record: “I saw clips of the video last night and I thought it was brilliant.

“I think you might find a lot of the Tartan Army deciding to embrace the local culture in Munich, just like McGinn did.

“I wouldn’t be surprised to see McGinn hats (Tyroleans) paired up with kilts, with the see-you jimmy hats being replaced with a bit of Bavarian fashion.

“You might also find some of our guys wearing lederhosen too as they get into the spirit.”

Hamish says the locals might be inspired by the Tartan Army’s traditional look, with Munich set to be awash with kilts.

He added: “It goes both ways, I’ve also seen Germans in homemade kilts when we’ve played them before!”

Hamish hopes the Scots will maybe show the Germans some dance moves of their own, with McGinn dancing a Highland jig, IF Scotland can topple the hosts on Friday.

He joked: “The Germans and the Scots will get on really well on matchday, it’ll be a great occasion.

“I hope and expect that John McGinn and all the Tartan Army will be doing our own Highland jig after the game.”

Fans were left in stitches by the video shared the Scotland National Team on X, formerly Twitter.

One fan commented “this is the best thing I’ve ever seen.”

Another posted a picture of their husband fully dressed in Lederhosen commenting that he’ll be “joining you soon.”
