Channel 4 gameshow Taskmaster is getting an official video game featuring stars Greg Davies and Alex Horne – in virtual reality.

The BAFTA-winning show, which recently crowned the winner of its 16th series, is hosted by Davies and Horne as the all-powerful 'Taskmaster' and his assistant. Each episode features the duo forcing five comedians through strange and surreal challenges, testing their wiles, wit and wisdom.

Now in collaboration with Scallywag Arcade, which is part of Draw & Code, Taskmaster VR is allowing viewers to experience the show for themselves.

The game has been made in partnership with Taskmaster production company Avalon, and will be available on virtual reality system Meta Quest 2 and 3 in 2024.

Taskmaster VR aims to "give everyone the chance to test themselves against the whims of the Taskmaster and his menagerie of challenging and extraordinary tasks from the comfort of their own homes".

Series star Davies noted that "the team have done an incredible job and the game is a really exciting addition to the Taskmaster world".

He then added: "On a personal note, the creation of a virtual reality Taskmaster takes me ever closer to my ultimate goal of working without even leaving my sofa."

Taskmaster co-host Horne, who also created the series, said: "Genuinely, this is extraordinary, brilliant and very fun.

"Also, I've always wanted to be a contestant on Taskmaster so this is great for me as a VR user, except that I will also have my virtual self watching my attempts and undermining my confidence so I may well regret the whole venture after I've had a go."

"The world of Taskmaster is perfect for VR," said Niall Taylor, who's head of games at Scallywag Arcade. "Combining the hilarity of the show with the freedom of virtual reality gives players an immersive (and slightly mad) experience.”

The game will be "fully voice acted" by Davies and Horne – so all the wit and cynicism seen on TV will be available right in the user's headset as they explore the show's iconic Taskmaster house and task locations including the lab, caravan and garden shed.

Taskmaster VR will be available in 2024. Taskmaster airs and streams on Channel 4, where you can also watch previous series.
