Daisy May Cooper has announced that she has welcomed a baby boy early, revealing his name and thanking the medical staff who've been looking after the family.

The This Country star, who's also known for her appearances on Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Taskmaster, shared the news on her Instagram page.

Daisy posted a video where she is saying hello to the newborn, who's lying in an incubator at a neonatal unit. She calls him "beautiful", and notes that his eyes are moving in response to her voice.

A member of staff is heard off-screen asking Daisy if she'd like a cuddle, as she gently strokes the baby and talks to him.

"What a bloody week..." Daisy wrote in her caption. "You came a bit earlier than we expected and gave me the worst post-op constipation that I nearly had to phone the Samaritans but my god you are perfect.

"I cannot thank [Gloucester Delivery Suite] enough. The way you looked after us through such a scary time was above and beyond. you are all bloody superstars. I am so blessed.

Daisy later shared a post on Instagram Stories of her cuddling baby Benji, writing: "Thank you so much for all your beautiful messages, it truly means the world.

"I am so blessed to have such legends as followers – you are all gorgeous buggers."

Benji is Daisy's first child with her partner Ant. She is also mum to 5-year-old daughter Pip and 3-year-old son Jack, through her relationship with ex-husband Will Weston.

Last year, Daisy opened up about purchasing a house in the countryside – but soon after moving in, she and her friends and family experienced series of spooky incidents, and it caused her to move house once again.

"It's so funny and it's so ridiculous, and I know what people think when I say it and how stupid it sounds, but I saw what I did and the sound of that thing coming in was terrifying," she recalled of one such incident.

Her fascination with the paranormal has also inspired her to write a book on the topic called Hexy Bitch. Described as "like Scooby-Doo meets Mystic Meg, via a portal to the afterlife in the back room of an Oxfordshire pub", it's due to be released in October.
