Taunton and Wellington General Election results in full as Lib Dems win

Gideon Amos and Ed Davey in Taunton

Voters in Taunton and Wellington have elected their new MP - and it is a gain for the Liberal Democrats

The existing Taunton Deane constituency has been held by Defra minister Rebecca Pow for the Conservatives since 2015. Pollsters though predicted the Liberal Democrats would gain the seat - and they were proven right as Gideon Amos took the seat with nearly 50 per cent of the vote

The boundaries of the seat have changed. While the seat retains Somerset’s county town and the surrounding villages, it has lost Wiveliscombe and settlements like Bishops Lydeard at the southern end of the Quantock Hills to the neighbouring Tiverton and Minehead seat. The new constituency of Taunton and Wellington effectively splits the former seat of Taunton Deane in half.

The focus is now more firmly on the county town and the neighbouring market town of Wellington. It's because the western and entirely rural portion of the old constituency has become part of a new Tiverton and Minehead seat.
