A teenager arrested in Saudi Arabia for dancing the Macarena on a busy street has been released with a warning about road safety.

The boy, whose identity has not been revealed, was taken in for questioning by Saudi Arabian authorities after being accused of “improper public behaviour”.

In a short clip, which was posted on Twitter and has received more than 2,000 retweets, the 14-year-old boy is seen bringing traffic to a standstill as he performs the dance, first popularised in the 1990s.

It is believed that the clip was originally filmed in July 2016, but went viral after it was posted last month.

The boy, whose name and nationality have not been revealed, has since been released without charge after he and his legal guardian were summoned for questioning.

The stunt received a mixed reaction, with some hitting out at the boy for performing the ‘western dance’ and claiming that it is not ‘haram’ – referring to any act that is forbidden by Islamic law.

Others, however, have hailed the youngster’s spirit – with one jokingly describing him as a ‘Jeddah master’.

The bizarre arrest comes after a similar incident earlier this month, which saw a Saudi Arabian singer detained by authorities after he was caught ‘dabbing’ during a concert.

Dabbing is banned in the ultra conservative Arab state, as authorities believe that it is a reference to drugs culture.
