Teenager shot in head and killed in broad daylight attack in Manhattan by suspects riding Citi Bike

A teenage boy was shot in the head in the Manhattan neighborhood of Soho on Tuesday afternoon.

The shooting occurred around 2.30pm on Spring Street, according to ABC7, with the victim believed to be around 16 years old. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital but pronounced dead a short time later.

Two suspects are believed to have fled on a single Citi Bike from the shooting, which happened in one of the city’s busiest shopping districts.

The teen was reportedly with his friends in a public courtyard on Spring Street near Varick Street when a conflict erupted with another group of teens, according to the New York Daily News. Police sources told the outlet that the fight began between two groups of girls. The victim reportedly tried to intervene before he was shot.

Police said a suspect took out a gun and shot the victim once in the back of the head and twice in the leg, according to NBC New York. The teen was hit in his head and thigh.

The shooting occurred near Broome Street Academy. Police are investigating whether or not any of the teens involved attended the school.
