The teenagers killed in London so far in 2023

The death of a 15-year-old girl fatally stabbed on her way to school in south London has shocked the community.

Eliyanna Andam died as a result of the attack in Wellesley Road in Croydon on Wednesday morning. A 17-year-old boy, who knew the victim, was arrested just over an hour later nearby.

Eliyanna was one of 15 young people to lose their lives on the streets of the capital so far this year alone.

Croydon itself was referred to as "London's knife crime capital" after five teenagers were fatally stabbed there in 2021.

There have also been 79 violent deaths in London so far this year, according to the PA news agency.

The latest knife crime figures for England and Wales show how the West Midlands and Cleveland had a higher rate than London per 100,000 people for the year 2022/23.

Here are the 15 teenage knife crime victims in London so far in 2023.

Chima Osuji, 17, was fatally stabbed after being chased in Chingford, east London, on 10 April.

Two 16-year-old boys have been charged with murder.

Tyler McDermott, 17, died after being found with a gunshot wound in Norman Road, Tottenham, north London, on 13 April.

Eight people have been charged with his murder.

They are: Tyrese Barnett and Leo Reid, both 19 Shernez Walters, 19, Tyrese Matthews, 20, Damaris McBeth, 19, Rhys Antwi, 19, Alfred Coker, 20, and Kalam Bagge, 18.

Mr Barnett has also been charged with attempting to murder another man and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. Mr Reid has also been charged with possession of an offensive weapon.

Wazabakana Elenda Jordan Kukabu, known as Jordan, 18, from Romford, was stabbed to death near Dagenham Heathway Station on 5 May.

A 15-year-old boy was charged with murder and possession of an offensive weapon.

Days later, two boys aged 16 and 17, and a 20-year-old man called Michael Tommy Mgagba, from Essex, were also charged with murder, attempted murder, and possession of an offensive weapon.

Renell Charles, 16, a pupil at Kelmscott School in Walthamstow, was ambushed and fatally stabbed in the chest near his school on the same day.

A 16-year-old boy has appeared in court charged with his murder.

Khaled Saleh, 17, was found with stab wounds in Paddington Green, central London, on 19 June.

A 16-year-old boy has appeared in court charged with his murder.

Victor Lee, 17, was found stabbed in a canal under Scrubs Lane, near Willesden Junction, west London, on 26 June.

Three teenage boys, aged 14, 15 and 17, have appeared in court charged with murder and robbery. They pleaded not guilty and will go on trial on 7 May next year.

Leonardo Reid, 15, was killed during a music video shoot in Elthorne Road, Archway, north London, on 29 June. Klevi Shekaj, 23, was also killed.

Three men appeared in court in connection with their deaths. Abel Chunda, 27, was charged with two counts of murder, one of attempted murder and one of possession of an offensive weapon.

Eden Clark, 29, was charged with two counts of murder, attempted murder and possession of a knife.

And Jason Furtardo, 26, has been charged with two counts of murder, one of attempted murder, and another of possessing an offensive weapon.

Andre Salmon, 18, was riding a moped when he was shot in the chest in Stamford Road, Tottenham, north London, on 3 July.

Reagan Konin, 18, appeared in court in July charged with murder, possession of a firearm and of an offensive weapon in a private place, possession with intent to supply class A drugs, and affray.

Rahaan Ahmed Amin, 16, was stabbed in the heart in West Ham Park in Newham, east London, on 9 July.

Six people were arrested. One, 16, is due to appear in court on 3 October charged with murder and possession of an offensive weapon

Claudyo Jauad Lafayette, 17, was killed in a fight in the street following a birthday party in Granville Road, Kilburn, north west London, on 14 July.

Stefan Valentine Balaban, 19, was stabbed in Whitchurch Lane, Edgware, north London, on 28 July. Five teenage boys - four aged 16 and one 17, have appeared in court charged with his murder. They will go on trial at the Old Bailey on 10 June next year.

Yusuf Mohamoud, 18, was found with fatal knife injuries near a supermarket in Regent's Park Road, Finchley, north London, on 7 August. Tyrese Jennings, 20, has appeared in court charged with his murder and possession of an offensive weapon. Two 15-year-old boys also appeared at youth court charged with murder.

Anis Omar Zen, 19, was fatally stabbed in Masefield Avenue in Stanmore, north London, on 4 September. Saeed Ibrahim, 18, appeared in court in September charged with murder.

Max Moy Wheatley, 19, was stabbed in Jubilee Country Park close to Tent Peg Lane in Petts Wood, south east London, on 20 September. An investigation has been launched and images of two men police want to speak to have been released, but no arrests have been made.
