A Teesside dad's romantic dinner date ended with him getting his teeth knocked out - when he claims he was 'battered' after partying in someone else's VIP booth.

Robin Mansfield Berry had enjoyed a second dinner date with a girl he met online on March 31, before he decided to go for a drink after they parted ways. The dad-of-four headed into Harry's Bar, in Guisborough, when he claims a group of men he got chatting to invited him into the bar's VIP section.

The 44-year-old says he was in the VIP area for just two minutes when someone 'stormed' into the section and began 'dragging him out'. Robin said he 'doesn't remember much' after the alleged altercation - and claims he woke up outside on the pavement with multiple injuries, Wales Online reports.

Robin, who owns a furniture company, was rushed to The James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, where he received treatment for suspected cracked ribs and a broken nose. The dad also had multiple teeth knocked out as a result of the incident.

After telling his date about the attack, he says they decided they were 'not really right for each other anyway' and have gone their separate ways. Cleveland Police said extensive investigation including CCTV and other enquiries have been ongoing since the incident and asked anyone who has not yet spoken to police to come forward.

'They thought I was dead'

Robin, who lives in Hemlington, Middlesbrough, said: "I hadn't done anything to aggravate this. I just remember [someone] grabbing me and dragging me out.

"Lots of people on that night have since got in touch with me and saw what happened. They said they thought I was dead.

"Apparently they saw someone kicking my face, which is when I'm assuming I lost my teeth. I've got cuts all over my head. I'm assuming that's why I can't remember anything."

Robin was rushed to hospital where he remained overnight after suffering multiple injuries as a result of the attack. Sadly, he won't be seeing the girl again as the pair have agreed to go their separate ways.

"We're not seeing each other anymore. I told her about the attack," Robin added. "It was only a second date. It was a 'getting to know you' thing and we'd decided we weren't really right for each other anyway. We don't have plans to see each other again."

Robin said: "I half remember being sat outside on the curb waiting for the ambulance then waking up in hospital. I think they took me for a CT scan to make sure there wasn't any internal bleeding. I was in complete agony and in pain.

"It's so frustrating. It's completely wrong that someone can do this to you. Even if I was causing trouble, which I don't think I was, I don't think that ever justifies what happens to me.

"I said I don't want to go out anymore after what happened. It's not worth going out. It's a scary world. Anything can happen. I could've easily died that night. Why would a person do such a thing? I'm still in a lot of pain. I'd like to see arrests made."

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: "Officers investigating an assault in Guisborough on Easter Day (Sunday 31st March) are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with doorbell/dashcam or CCTV footage to get in touch. It happened just after 11.25pm outside Harry's Bar on Westgate however it's believed the altercation started inside the bar and spilled out onto the street.

"A 44-year-old man was taken by ambulance to James Cook University Hospital where he received treatment for suspected cracked ribs and a broken nose. He also had some teeth knocked out. Extensive investigation including CCTV and other enquiries have been ongoing since the incident and we would ask anyone who has not yet spoken to police to come forward."

Police confirmed no arrests have been made. Harry's Bar has been approached for a comment.
