After several weeks of changeable weather and our fair share of rain, Wales is finally set for a sunnier outlook this weekend. It has been an unsettled few weeks which have seen heavy downpours, warnings and strong gusts of wind around the country.

But things are looking brighter if you live in Wales, with forecasts showing a sunny, mostly dry and calm weekend. The Met Office currently predicts "a few showers" on Friday before "a dry period with sunny spells" on Saturday, with temperatures reaching around 13C in Cardiff.

The weekend will also feel slightly warmer than it has been recently due to lower winds, but it will still feel chilly overnight. You can get the latest WalesOnline newsletters e-mailed to you directly by signing up here.

Both BBC forecasters and the Met Office predict good things weatherwise over the coming days. BBC senior meteorologist Derek Brockway posted on X on Wednesday saying: "A much drier and calmer outlook!

"At the moment Saturday the sunniest day of the weekend. Pleasantly warm in the afternoon with little wind and strong April sunshine. Sunday cloudier but dry and sunnier in the west. More dry weather next week and turning cooler with a few showers."

The Met Office, meanwhile, predicts a "chilly but bright start with plenty of sunshine" on Thursday. "Skies turning cloudier from the north through the day with some showery rain in north Wales through the afternoon. Freshening winds. Maximum temperature 13C," their Wales forecast says.

On the outlook for Friday to Sunday, the Met Office says: "A few showers at first on Friday, but otherwise a dry period with sunny spells, these most prolonged on Saturday. Feeling slightly warmer as winds ease, though still chilly overnight."

The good weather could be set to stick around for a bit too, with the Met Office predicting things to be stable heading into next week. From April 22 to May 1 they said: "This will generally be a settled period with high pressure close to the UK throughout. Most locations will remain dry, with variable cloud cover. Although some small areas or bands of thicker cloud, hill fog, and patchy light rain or drizzle will float about day to day.

"There will also be a few showers, most likely in the east and south of England. Temperatures will often be around average by day, although with mostly light winds and clear skies it will feel warm in any sunshine. Overnight where cloud breaks allow, frosts are likely in rural areas. As already mentioned, winds will mostly be light, although slightly stronger winds are likely in the far southeast at times."
