Terrifying footage shows banned driver lead police on chase down narrow streets

A banned driver who led police on a "wild goose chase" through narrow streets in East Lancashire, narrowly avoiding groups of children and "cutting corners like there was no tomorrow", has been jailed.

Ian Gilheaney took officers on a "hair-raising chase" around Haslingden and Accrington after failing to stop. Terrifying video footage has been shared on Facebook today (May 8) by Rossendale Police, accompanied by dramatic music and a 'hair-raise ometer', after he was locked up for more than two years.

The post was captioned: "When we signal for you to pull over and stop… We usually mean pull over and stop. But for Ian Gilheaney, instead that meant leading us on a wild goose chase through the narrow streets of Haslingden."

The force said the chase involved "many hair-raising moments", including "narrowly missing two groups of school children about to cross the road" and "cutting corners like there was no tomorrow". Police said Gilheaney also "miraculously [missed] other drivers going about their day."

The Facebook post added: "Don’t believe us? Watch the video (a warning for those who suffer from motion sickness, you might want to give it a miss… Fortunately, (or not so much for Ian), he eventually decided to abandon ship and leg it – sadly for him though, we already had officers on the ground ready to swoop and swoop they did!"

Gilheaney was arrested and charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving without insurance, driving whilst disqualified and affray. He has now been jailed for two years and four months.
