The shocking incident happened at the junction of Dean Street and Portland Street North in Ashton-under-Lyne at around 4.30pm yesterday. It happened on the street outside the Holy Trinity Community Centre - where residents were placing their votes in the local election.

The footage appeared to show a man speaking to the driver of a red car through the window, before multiple other people, including a woman, walked towards the car. The driver then quickly drove towards the group, with multiple people getting knocked to the ground.

The footage showed the woman falling to the road as a number of people tried to chase the car. The driver fled the scene, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed.

In a statement, the force said said a 43-year-old woman was taken to hospital with 'superficial injuries'. Two arrests have since been made in connection with the hit-and-run.
