Tesco and Aldi giving out 'emergency' refunds and say 'we apologise'

Tesco and Aldi have issued urgent product recalls and are issuing emergency refunds for shoppers with no proof of purchase necessary. Tesco and Aldi will hand back cash to shoppers and customers with no receipt required.

Tesco has recalled a £1.15 sandwich staple while Aldi is recalling meats. Tesco stated: "We have been made aware that a specific date/bath code of Tesco Sandwich Pickle 295g jar may contain pieces of glass. Therefore, this product could pose a safety risk if consumed.

"Please do not consume this product and instead return any affected product to store where a full refund will be given. No receipt is required. Tesco apologises to our customers for any inconvenience caused. If you require further details, please contact Customer Services directly on (UK) 0800 505 555; (ROI) 1800 248 123."

The alert from Tesco, which is the UK's biggest grocer and rivalled by the likes of Morrisons, Asda, Sainsbury's, Lidl and more, comes hot off the heels of Aldi urgently recalling a string of meat products. The two pork products have been labelled incorrectly, with the wrong use-by dates used.

The affected products are the Ashfields Grill Chinese Pork Loin Steaks and BBQ Pork Loin Steaks. The recall affects 500g packs of the pork with use by dates of June 22. A spokesman said: “Aldi is recalling the above products. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling these products.

“These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the products. If you have bought any of the above products do not eat them. Instead, return them to the store from where it was bought for a full refund. For further information, please visit help.aldi.co.uk or contact 0800 042 0800.”

An Aldi spokesman added: “Customers are asked to return this product to their nearest store, where a full refund will be given. We apologise that this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation.”
