Yahoo News New Tesco to open near Exeter
The rapid expansion of new housing on the outskirts of Exeter has reached an important landmark with works progressing on the Tithebarn Green development for a new community centre with shops opening later this year. Land at Old Tithebarn Lane in Clyst Honiton is being used to create Tithebarn Green Local Centre which will includes a new Tesco convenience store, a café and community, healthcare and commercial space on the first floor.
It is hoped to become a focal point for residents and visitors and will also feature a new external multi-use games area, neighbourhood play area, two sports pitches, a small public park, and a public square featuring a sculpture by a local artist. The Tithebarn mixed-use development area comprises in excess of 1,600 homes.
Outline planning permission was originally granted for the area to be developed in 2013 and detailed planning permission for the local centre was granted by East Devon District Council in 2021. It includes 930 homes, a new link road, employment area, park and ride facility, local centre/ square, health and fitness centre, crèche, public and private open space car and cycle parking, together with landscaping.

The Tithebarn Green Local Centre will be located at the junction of Tithebarn Way and Hutchings Drive. The new road serving the development will be called Gereint Hill.
A topping-out ceremony for the project - marking the completion of the building's structure - was held on April 30. The work is being carried out by Devon Contractors, a prominent construction company in the south west.
The developer of the site is Eagle One Limited. Its director, Jon Symons, said: "It is testament to the hard work of the Devon Contractors team to have reached this topping out milestone of the Tithebarn Green Local Centre, especially amidst one of the wettest winters on record.
"We look forward to celebrating completion of the project in late 2024."
