Tesco Starts Placing Security Tags On Shopping Baskets After A THIRD Stolen From Store

Tesco has started putting security tags on shopping baskets in a Greater Manchester store - after a third of them were stolen by angry shoppers following the introduction of the 5p bag charge last week.

Irate shoppers have started taking the baskets from the Tesco store on Featherstall Road in Oldham, Manchester - since the charge was introduced last Monday.

Justifying the new measure, a Tesco spokesman said: ‘We need to provide the best possible service to our customers and this includes having baskets available for shoppers.’

‘As a result, to prevent further thefts, security tags have been attached to the remaining baskets to prevent them being stolen.’

But while Tesco bosses have deemed it to be necessary, they might want to be focusing their attentions on a larger problem - with some customers boasting of taking trolleys from the store instead.

Aden Djvibe, from Trowbridge, posted uploaded an image of a trolley in his kitchen on Twitter, with the caption: ‘5p for a bag, get f****d I got a £1 trolley.’

Another shopper said: ‘U don’t need to buy a bag for 5p, you can get a whole trolley for a quid.’

When will the madness end?!
