Tesco warns 'all' shoppers planning to shop in Express stores this weekend

Tesco has changed its Sunday opening hours as 1,800 stores are affected by England reaching the Euro 2024 final. Tesco - which is rivalled by the likes of Sainsbury's, Asda, Morrisons and Lidl as well as Aldi - has said more than 1,800 of its Express stores will close at 7.30pm instead of the usual 10pm or 11pm.

It comes in a bid to give employees time to get home to watch the clash. Staff get paid as normal for these hours and those who don't want to watch the match will be also still be paid. Tesco Express stores will reopen as normal on Monday (July 15) at either 6am or 7am. Larger Tesco stores will be shut during the Euros final regardless, due to Sunday trading hours.

Tesco's managing director of UK stores, Kevin Tindall, said: "We will be cheering on the Three Lions tonight against the Netherlands and hope they reach a second successive Euros final. We appreciate just how much this would mean to so many of our colleagues, and we want them to be able to celebrate with their family and friends.

"So, if we make it through to the final, we will close our stores across England in time for them to get behind Gareth Southgate and the team, and we'll all be hoping that football will be coming home." It comes as Phil Foden says he is ready to follow up on his “best game” for England in the final after a slow start to the tournament.

The Manchester City player told PA that he was a bit “unlucky” during his earlier struggles in the team, playing out wide. He said: "I’ve obviously had a few close chances but the main thing is obviously the team winning and I feel like it was probably my best game in an England shirt so I’m delighted.

"I feel like the last two games have been improvements, I feel like the position is helping me as well to get on the ball and getting into dangerous areas. I was enjoying it out there, I was picking up spaces and looked more like myself, like I do for City, finding space on the edge of the box and getting shots away, I’m just enjoying my football.

"I feel like [the final] is going to be my biggest game in my career. So as you can see, the smile on my face and I’m just looking forward to it. We believe in our ability. We know Spain are a fantastic team in the way they keep the ball but we also know our strengths.

"So we are looking forward to it and it will definitely change all our lives for sure."
