Tesla Unveils Bizarre ‘Snakebot’ Electric Car Charger

Electric car maker Tesla has unveiled a weird ‘Snakebot’ car charger that ‘automatically moves out from the wall and connects like a solid metal snake’.

While electric cars are good for the environment, manual charging is a regular grumble from owners.

The new Snakebot charger would seemingly make things much easier, with the robotic serpent taking care of the car’s power demands without needing to be manually plugged in by the owner.

Details on how the ‘robo-snake’ works are thin on the ground, but it appears to automatically locate the car’s charging port by itself before slowly moving into position.

After the techie snake charger was first unveiled in a mildly unnerving video on the @TeslaMotors Twitter feed, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk later tweeted:

“Tesla Snakebot autocharger prototype. Does seem kinda wrong :)”.

The tentacle-like contraption is currently being tested but there’s no word on when it will be available.

Reports suggest that it could work with every Model S car already on the road, indicating that it won’t be limited just to new vehicles.
