Texas bombs: Austin residents warned to be vigilant for more explosive devices after bomber is blown up in car

Police have warned people in Texas to remain vigilant amid concerns that the Austin bomber could have planted more explosives before his death.

23-year-old Mark Anthony Conditt died after blowing up his vehicle as police closed in on him.

He was involved in a series of linked bombings in Texas in which two people were killed and several more were injured.

Federal officials say they have a “reasonable level of certainty “that there are no package bombs out in the public”.

However authorities have warned people in Austin to remain vigilant just in case.

FBI agent Chris Combs said: “We think we’re on top of this but we just don’t know.”

Police searched his apartment in Pflugerville, finding homemade explosives. They are now looking through his internet history to discover how the 23-year-old learnt how to make the bombs.

They also found a 25 minute confession video on his phone in which he explains the bombs that he used.

The 23-year-old was unemployed and had dropped out of college, according to ABC News. His motive is still unclear.

Mr Conditt’s family have released a statement saying they had “no ideas of the darkness that Mark must have been in.”While his uncle described him as a “computer geek” who was intelligent and kind.

The close to the bombing spree came after footage of the suspect delivering packages to a FedEx office were released. Images show a man in a cap delivering two parcels at around 7.30pm on Sunday.

Conditt blew up the vehicle he was in at 3am local time on Wednesday, authorities confirmed.

Officers had tracked the suspect to a hotel and a SWAT team was pursuing him when he pulled to the side of the road and detonated a bomb.

A police officer suffered minor injuries from the blast and a SWAT team member fired a shot at the vehicle.

There were six explosive devices discovered in total - five that detonated.
