When a fitness blogger posted two before and after pictures on Instagram, you’d be forgiven for thinking the six pack in the second picture was the result of a gruelling workout plan. But in fact, the snaps were taken just 30 seconds apart and were purely down to a few clever posing tricks.

Jess, who blogs under the name PlankingForPizza, posted the pictures to prove you shouldn’t believe everything you see on Instagram by demonstrating how easily body transformation snaps can be ‘faked’.

In the ‘before’ photo she stuck her belly out as far as possible and adjusted her bikini bottoms to reveal her ‘love handles’.

While in the ‘after’ photo she stood up straighter and adjusted her bikini bottoms to conceal any wobbly bits around her stomach and hips.

Explaining to her 45,000 Instagram followers Jess confessed that it was ‘not a transformation photo’ but rather a way to prove the her body 'isn’t perfect’ and that 'not everything we see meets the eye’ on social media.

“You can show your best angles and hide your flaws, but at the end of the day what we choose to showcase is a reflection of ourselves. My body isn’t perfect. I still have imperfections and flaws that I’m slowly learning to be comfortable with,” she wrote.

“I want to be real and honest and open. Yes I’ve accomplished a lot, but yes my body still has less than ideal days when it doesn’t look its best. Fitness and health is not a fix. It’s not a destination. It’s a lifestyle.

The 26-year-old who began her fitness journey in June last year and regularly posts updates on her progress admitted that she is often her own harshest critic, but said she is slowly learning to be "gentle and kind”.

“I am not a before picture. I am not an after picture. I am not fat nor am I perfect. I’m flawed. I’m scarred. I’m insecure. But I’m learning and I’m hopeful that one day I’ll fully love me.”
